Customer Review: Three Words: Simpler, Shorter and Just as Fun.
I have always love Civilization games. They are interesting, challenging and enjoyable. If you are reading this review, then you maybe wonder how this console compare to the PC version. I have played over 20 games on this version, so I have certainly passed the initial phrase. Civilization Revolution is a more streamlined version and not as deep as the PC version. For example, there is no peasant unit. Roads are no longer built by peasants one square at a time; instead, you simply pay for the cost of the road and it will be constructed instantaneously. It is certainly a much simpler game (I really miss the fact that I can no longer destroy enemy's roads). The upside is that the game is much shorter and therefore you can finish one game in 3 hours, not 3 days or 3 weeks. I really like this. If I am still a college student on summer vacation, then I may not appreciate this "short" feature as much. However, for many of us who has a full time job, this is just great. I cannot tell you how many games I start giving up because I don't have the time to invest in them. This is a simpler game, but not necessary an easier game. I played Civilization III and I was winning 80% of the Emperor level games and losing 90% of the Deity games. In revolution, I am currently winning 80% of the Emperor games and losing all of my Deity games. The graphic and music of this game is just great. However, there are a few things I wish the game has kept. For instance, there are "unique" units, but they are only different in appearance and not as much on stats. This is one feature which I count as a pure "dumb-down" change. Taking the peasant units out has a up side and a down side. It makes the game simpler and faster. Taking unique units out, simply make the game simpler. I only see a down side in this change.
Customer Review: Wonderful game - hope to see more like it in the future
THis game is wonderful. It took a while to get used to some of the controls, but became quite manageable. Overall, the game is wonderful. Maps are a bit smaller than I would have liked, but graphics are decent, and there is nothing else like it on the PS3. I hope to see some future revisions of this game, or other similar strategy games. I have played 6 games thusfar, and with each game, I get to choose different characters or civilization strengths. each game is 1-4 hours long which is something I prefer as I don't want to spend days putting together my armies and cities. Roads, cities, armys all build rather quickly. great game.
